The Roxy
San Diego, California, U.S.A.
I noticed that you didn't have any information for the San
Diego show of the Airwaves tour. It took place at a movie theater briefly
turned concert venue called "The Roxy" (no relation to its slightly northern
neighbor). Over about 2 years span of time this tiny theater hosted shows by Graham
Parker, Squeeze, The Police and Boomtown Rats and a bunch of other acts that would
either soon be famous or used to be famous but and soon be obscure. The theater was
demolished and is now a popular post office on Cass Street in San Diego's Pacific
Beach area.
The opening act was a San Diego band called "The Fingers", which made for
an interesting looking marquee. Actually, it really was a good double bill (and a
great show) because The Fingers were a very good San Diego pop/rock band in their
own right. They were fronted by Joey Harris and included Paul Kamanski, both later
to be members of the Beat Farmers. I can't remember the exact date but if you want
to know it maybe you can find it through contacts at www.joeyharris.com or Paul Kamanski's
at http://www.comanchemoon.com/.
