The Chance
Poughkeepsie, New York, U.S.A.

In 1983, I got to see Badfinger play at "The Chance" in Poughkeepsie, New York. It was an awesome performance, and after the show -- a friend and I hung around. Tom Evans came out to the bar and we got to talk with him. I asked him for his opinion of what went wrong for Pete Ham, and why he had hung himself. Evans told us, very sadly, that Pete just couldn't take what happened to the band after the lawsuits involving Apple froze their music. He also told us that it was he who had cut Pete down. That was truly a very emotional thing for him to talk about. I was saddened even deeper, when just a short time later, I learned that Tom Evans had taken his own life too. I couldn't believe it.
