Splinter
Apple Demos (1972)
Following Bill
Elliott's vocal on John Lennon's song, God Save Us in 1971 with the
Elastic Oz Band, Mal Evans attempted to get Splinter on Apple Records,
but since the label was winding down, nothing happened until George
Harrison decided to start his own label.
This is an Apple Custom Label acetate cut at 3 Savile Row in London.
It's a two-sided stereo 12-inch disc which plays at 33-1/3 rpm.
What's on this disc?
This disc consists of 7 demos
that are mostly acoustic performances. None of these versions of
Splinter songs have ever been released.
TRACKS:
Side 1:
1. *Berkley
House Hotel [Robert J. Purvis] (2:59)
A song that was later recorded for their
2nd LP, Harder To Live in 1975.
2. *Love Is Not Enough (To Stay Alive)
[Robert J. Purvis]
(2:34)
A song that had more official releases
than any other Splinter song. It was released as two different studio
versions and a live version. This song was also recorded at the demo
session for Dark Horse Records.
Bob Purvis: "A chap called Les Tones [played electric guitar].
Les was a great guitarist and a lovely guy. I wrote the lick and played
acoustic. By the time we did this, the Oz thing was over. It was before
Lonely Man [for Little Malcolm]. I loved that version. We both sang lead
the way we did it live. Me and Billy did a good live one. We would
finish a gig with it. The song was written around the time I wrote
Elly-May."
3. Just Another Chance a.k.a. Another Chance That I Let Go
(Lonely Man) [Robert
J. Purvis, Malcolm Evans] (3:36)
Later re-recorded for the Little Malcolm film in 1973 with George
Harrison on slide guitar, but never officially released, then re-recorded
again for their 2nd LP, Harder To Live in 1975.

J. Purvis, William Elliott] (2:18)
