reasons to buy this CD:
The single mix of "Love Reign O'er Me" makes its first CD appearance
here.
The two new songs are the first new Who recordings since "Saturday Night's
Alright (For Fighting)" in 1991.
criticisms:
It appears that the intention here was to include all The Who's highest charting
singles. However, the mixes included are inconsistent with this theme in many places...
- Why isn't the true mono mix of "Happy Jack" included,
yet "I Can't Explain", "My Generation" and "Substitute"
are?
- Why is the full length version of "Won't Get Fooled Again"
included instead of the edited single version? If they are going to break the theme
here, then why not use the full length version of "The Kids Are Alright"
also instead of the one with the really sloppy edit during the solo?
- The single edit of "5:15" is not used.
- Why isn't the real single version of "Who Are You?"
used here... the one with the lyrics redone as "who the hell are you"?
That's the version I own on 45rpm vinyl. That version (which clocks in at 3:23) has
yet to be released on CD. This would have been the perfect opportunity to do so.
- Once again, another chance to release the single edit of "You
Better You Bet" passes by. The full length version has been included on every
"best of" compilation that I have seen so far.
